Asperger's Syndrome
(AS), sometimes also called Asperger's Disorder, is a puzzling
disorder that, according to a population study conducted in
Goteberg, Sweden, affects as many as 36 of every 10,000
children. Or to put it another way, that’s 1 in every 277
children.
Of the children
diagnosed with Aspegers Child Syndrome, the number of boys
outweighs the number of girls by a ration of 4 to 1. Why
Aspergers Syndrome occurs in more boys than girls, no one
knows. Unfortunately, that's just one of many mysteries that
Asperger's presents.
For the child with High
Functioning Aspergers Syndrome, social skills
training may prove to be the intervention with the
biggest payoff.
Improving their social skills will help them
interact at school, reduce their challenging behaviors,
reduce their anxiety, and most importantly raise their
self-esteem!
